Matthew Henry

Matthew Henry was a Presbyterian pastor during a time in England when dissenters from the Church of England were not treated kindly.  Trained as an attorney, he had a pastor's heart, a keen eye for the practical and faithful application of Biblical truth, a sharp wit, and a vocabulary of 10,000 words....  Like a Christian Shakespeare, his exhortations and sermons surpass all others in their charm, clarity, and simplicity.  Unlike most evangelical Protestants of today, he had no use for patronizing unrepentant sinners but, like Jesus, we would not extinguish a smoldering wick.
